2001/02: Extreme Sports Recreational Centre, Liverpool, England.front elevation

This project represents my final design project of my masters degree (Bachelor of Architecture), undertaken at the Hull School of Architecture, England, 2002. This project is also entered into this years RIBA Silver Medal Award Part 2 Design, for more details visit: presidentsmedals

using the language of landscape topology, the amorphous skin begins to carve into the ground below, forming underground spaces allowing for the adoption of extreme activities to take place.

the building submerging underground allows a great deal of movement to take place, both vertically and horizontally creating ideal opportunities for the external skin to support activities like skiing and snow-boarding.

now with the four main space defining elements in place, ie. the skin, the image planes, the curved nurbs surfaces and the enclosing grid structure now allows for in-depth analysis.
